The Banner Project : Breaking the Silence of Sexual Abuse
VHS. Produced by The Safer Society Program. 43minutes, 1994
 £  + VAT
Sexual abuse has long been a silent, secret, hidden crime affecting the lives of children and the adults they become. In multicolored swatches of fabric, The Banner Project tells the world that hundreds of men, women, and children have survived childhood experiences of sexual abuse by family members and others. Each square shows a hand raised to say "Stop! No more!" and represents thousands of survivors who are breaking society's silence about this insidious crime, helping to heal from decades of pain and isolation.

In January 1993, three survivors, Safer Society Award winner Lori Schroeder, author and longtime survivor activist Euan Bear of the Safer Society Program, and survivor Olin McGill (speaking out publicly for the first time), gathered to talk about the Banner Project and the impact of incest and childhood sexual abuse on their lives. The three speak of pain, secrecy, and rage, but also of healing, joy, and wholeness.

Why do some men who were assaulted become perpetrators and others don't? This video offers a unique perspective by separately interviewing Jim, a male victim of sexual abuse (a biker who was incarcerated for drugs and violent behavior) and Graham, a pedophile (who had dozens of contacts and finally received court mandated treatment) about their past and present lives. At the end of the video, the two men meet and discuss the healing process.

The Healing Years
VHS. Produced by Future Educational Film Inc. 52 minutes.
£69.00 + VAT
The Healing Years is a documentary taking a bold look at the profound effects of child sexual abuse on individuals, families and society, and the importance of recovery as a key to ending the cycle of abuse. The program profiles three women survivors of incest from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds - Marilyn Van Derbur, former Miss America; Janice Mirikitani, President of San Francisco's renowned Glide Memorial Church; and Barbara Hamilton, a 78-year old survivor. These women bear witness to the emotional dysfunction, addiction, perpetuation of abuse, and detrimental impact this crime has on families and society. Yet, the program is ultimately inspiring as we witness their recovery from victims to empowered women, ending the cycle of child sexual abuse in our families and communities where incest and abuse is widely prevalent.

Offender-Victim Communication : A Face-to-Face Session
DVD. Produced by Safer Society Press. 57 minutes, 1995.
£85.00
+ VAT

In this first-of-its-kind video, 7 sex offenders in various stages of treatment introduce themselves with brief descriptions of their offenses and their victims. Facing the camera they respond to 21 questions asked aloud by an adult female survivor of childhood sexual abuse - questions she had originally asked her abuser - including:
    Why did you molest me?
Why did you tell lies and keep secrets?
How did you keep your lives (as a regular guy and a child molester) separate?
How could I have stopped you?
What did I do that led to this?
Was there anyone else besides me?
Are you mad because I told?
What did you do to keep your victims from telling?
What do you think I am going through?
    Are others safe around you?
If you could tell the victims of sexual assault one thing, what would it be?

The answers are sometimes brutally honest, occasionally self-centered or unconvincing, but always illuminating. Viewing the tape will help:
Your sex offender clients break down their denial.
Victim's families stop blaming the victim.
Abusers' families understand about offender thinking & behavior patterns.
    Victims stop blaming themselves.
